Just and effective governance is needed for successful wind energy development.

JustWind4All is a research project that supports the acceleration of on- and offshore wind energy, including emerging wind technologies like airborne and floating, through just and effective governance.

By integrating insights from different academic disciplines and societal perspectives, we support synergies and exchange among people and organisations to coordinate and participate in actions around wind energy deployment.

JustWind4All Consortium Meeting in Estoril, Portugal: Reflecting, Planning and Connecting

In the picturesque coastal town of Estoril, Portugal, the JustWind4All consortium recently gathered for the annual in-person consortium meeting. The venue, surrounded by breathtaking ocean views, set the stage for a three-day event that combined reflection on past achievements, strategic planning for the future, and valuable connections among the project members. The first day of the consortium meeting was marked by a sense of REconnection, as we took a moment to collectively look back at the milestones achieved by JustWind4All. Through shared insights and experiences, the team celebrated how far the project had come since its start, reinforcing the collaborative spirit that drives our work. On our second day, the focus shifted to REpowering - a forward-looking approach that involved planning future activities and identifying new interconnections within the project. We engaged in strategic discussions, exploring new interconnections between our work. On [...]

From nanoworld to the complexities of sustainability: interview with Miquel Sierra i Montoya

Miquel, with Dr. Cristina Madrid and Nikki Harasta We had the privilege of sitting down with Miquel Sierra i Montoya, a researcher whose journey has taken him from the intricate world of lab work and nanotechnology to the forefront of sustainability research, where he's currently working on his PhD. Miquel is part of the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA-UAB) and is a key member of the JustWind4All project, where he works on the development of the life cycle assessment model. Today, we'll explore Miquel's transition, from navigating the intricacies of the nanoworld to exploring environmental sustainability, the work he does on JustWind4All and his views on the complexities of wind energy development. Miquel, can you tell us a little something about yourself and your work? Not long ago, I made a big change in my career. I left [...]

Insights from our Dutch and Danish case studies

In our search for successful participatory practices, just and effective governance and bottom-up initiatives, we have conducted seven regional case studies, across seven countries: The Netherlands, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Slovenia, Germany, and Bulgaria. he findings and insights collected were summarised in regional recommendations for each case study. Find out more here. Audrey Wientjes & Lina le Pelley, both from DRIFT, have gathered insights from two regional case studies - the Netherlands and Denmark - highlighting six “lessons learned” for participatory, inclusive, and just wind energy development in these regions. They also reflecte dont he broader context, asking themselves how we can conceptualise the green transition, and raise reflexive open questions applicable to any region. Read their report here.
